House Virelan

House Hamundr was forged in frost and giant’s blood, born of the First Men who stood unbroken against winter and won the allegiance of titans. Their legacy is not merely rule of the North—but a sacred pact of strength, sacrifice, and unyielding honor that has endured since the beginning.

Davos Virelan.png

DAVOS VIRELAN

Lord Davos Virelan is a man of tides and steel, the master of the Azure Coast and admiral of the largest and most feared armada in the known world. Born into a house of seafarers, Davos refined the Virelan legacy into a naval empire—one ship at a time. His shipyards are vast, his harbors bustling, and his coffers deeper than most kings’. Yet, for all his power, Davos is not reckless.

He knows the weight of war. He has counted the cost of rebellion. And though the whispers in his court speak of independence, Davos keeps one eye on Westara—and the dragon rumored to still sleep beneath the palace vaults. He has the might, the fleets, the infrastructure. But he lacks certainty. It is this restraint that makes him dangerous—not an unchained wolf, but a leashed kraken waiting for the storm.

His wife, Ruby of House Sirellan, pushes him toward more aggressive maneuvering. She is ambition given voice. Davos is the hand that holds the wheel steady—though even he feels the pull of legacy and the hunger for more. His only son, Jorah, burns with these fires more openly. Davos sees in him the fire he once buried, and wonders what kind of man the tides will shape him into.

Among his crew and court, Davos is known for his ruthlessness. Pirates and traitors are judged by the sea itself—stripped of title and cast into the Myrric Sea. “If you live,” he says coldly, “then the gods have judged you fit to keep breathing.” It is how he dealt with his own brother Desmond after an accusation of theft and treachery. Though Davos sentenced him to the sea, part of him still wonders if the gods spared the drowned prince… and what storm that mercy may yet bring.

Ruby Virelan (Sirellan).png

RUBY VIRELAN

To the sailors and stewards of the Azure Coast, Lady Ruby is both an asset and a mystery. She walks the harbors of Saltspire with the same poise she carried in the marble courts of Dravelle. Her eyes miss nothing—captains swear she knows a ship’s worth just by the sound of its ropes in the wind.

To the Virelan court, she is Lord Davos’ most valuable political acquisition. Their union was forged not in love, but in leverage—a marriage born from need. Gilded Isles trade for Azure Coast steel. Wine for warships. Secrets for salt.

But Ruby has played the part far too well. Her grace disarms. Her words slice cleaner than any cutlass. And when she smiles, even Davos’ most loyal bannermen lean closer, hoping to be part of the game.

While Davos is the commander of ships, Ruby is the admiral of influence. She feeds intelligence from her homeland through coded letters and cryptic servants, none more mysterious than her personal handmaiden Liora—a dancer from the Gilded Isles with a habit of vanishing during diplomatic visits.

To Davos, Ruby is both trusted and watched. He respects her mind, even admires her resilience—but he does not fool himself. She is her mother’s daughter. And the Sirellans always play the long game.

Behind closed doors, their marriage is cold but respectful. Each knows the other’s ambition—and neither dares underestimate it.

Venna Virelan.png

Venna Virelan has spent most of her life on the edge of House Virelan’s glory—present, but never celebrated. She is the firstborn of Admiral Davos, born to his first wife Tara Gullimire. Though once paraded as a symbol of political unity, her mother's death—and Davos’s strategic remarriage to Ruby Sirellan—pushed Venna out of favor and focus.

Unlike her younger half-brother, Venna was never trained for battle or diplomacy. Instead, she was taught to smile, listen, and wait. But no proposal ever came. As the years passed and the family’s ambitions grew sharper, Venna became a ghost in fine clothes—dutiful, quiet, and passed over.

She lives now in the high manor of Saltspire, overseeing ledger books and provisioning ledgers with a quiet, methodical brilliance few recognize. Though her father rarely speaks of her, and her siblings don’t lean on her counsel, Venna has eyes and ears in every port.

Some say she has a mind like a whetstone—sharpening in silence, waiting to carve her name into the family legacy when the tide finally turns.

Jorah Virelan.png

JORAH VIRELAN

Jorah Virelan is a young man living beneath the weight of legacy. The son of Lord Davos Virelan and Lady Ruby Sirellan, he was born into salt and silk—one foot on the sea, the other in court. His early years were spent studying under seasoned captains and fleet officers, learning the art of naval warfare with relentless discipline. He’s never led in true battle, but those closest to him claim it’s only a matter of time.

Jorah inherited his father’s stern brow and his mother’s sharp cheekbones, a blend that gives him a quiet intensity. While he lacks his mother’s silver tongue, he’s a gifted listener and a precise speaker—qualities that serve him well among both nobility and sailors. He is loyal to his bloodline and holds tightly to notions of duty and order, yet a fire burns behind his eyes. Some say it’s ambition. Others fear it might be resentment.

He is haunted, quietly, by the story of his uncle Desmond—the so-called Drowned Prince. Though Davos claims Desmond betrayed the family, Jorah has read the reports, listened to the rumors. There are questions he’s never dared ask aloud.

To the world, he is the Stormborne: a poised and promising successor to the most powerful navy in Elaros. But to himself, Jorah wonders whether the sea has already chosen another heir… and whether he will ever command The Leviathan as his father once did.

Jade Virelan.png

Jade Virelan walks the line between noble grace and quiet invisibility. The second daughter of Davos and Ruby, she was born into a house of sharp ambition and sharper politics, but her spirit has not yet been carved into something so severe. Sheltered yet perceptive, she listens more than she speaks, often retreating into observation over participation.

While Ruby teaches her how to smile without showing teeth, and Davos teaches her silence is sometimes stronger than speech, it is her elder sister Venna who has had the most lasting impact on Jade’s heart. Where Ruby's affection is conditional and veiled behind strategy, Venna's has always been simple, sincere, and unwavering.

Jade is kind. Perhaps too kind. But she is not naive. She knows what kind of house she lives in, and what kind of world lies outside its gates. She simply hasn’t decided yet if she will play the game—or break the board.

JADE VIRELAN

Mara Virelan.png

MARA VIRELAN

Mara Virelan is the daughter every noble house dreams of producing—graceful, soft-spoken, and obedient. But beneath her polished exterior lies a girl trapped in a gilded cage. Chosen to be the bride of King Eryndor at just eighteen, her betrothal is less a union of love and more a symbol of House Virelan’s growing influence—and the kingdom’s desperate attempt to produce an heir.

She never raised a protest. That is not the Virelan way. Ruby taught her to smile and curtsy, to bow without bending. Davos taught her that duty is colder than the sea, but no less vast.

Mara does what is asked of her. She says the right words. She wears the right silks. She never weeps in public. But those close enough can see it—the glimmer of something else behind her downcast eyes. A will, perhaps. A quiet steel. Or maybe just fear.

What no one knows—not even her mother—is that Mara has begun to keep a journal. Not of dreams, but of truths. The names of those who pity her, those who leer, those who whisper. Every detail, remembered. Because while Mara may walk quietly into a marriage forged in politics... she has not forgotten who she is.

And one day, the lamb might bare her teeth.

Meera Virelan.png

MEERA VIRELAN

Meera Virelan has grown up in the shadow of powerful men and quietly brilliant women. Her father commands the greatest navy in the world. Her mother whispers through the courts like a sea breeze that turns into a storm. And her older siblings—Jorah, bold and sharp-edged, and Mara, the queen-to-be—seem to walk fates far larger than anything Meera could imagine.

Yet Meera watches. She listens. She learns.

Though still just a girl, Meera has an uncanny emotional intelligence—able to read a room in a single glance. She often defers to her sister Venna, treating her like a second mother. It’s Venna’s guidance, more than Ruby’s manipulations, that has shaped Meera’s quiet strength and sense of compassion. Among the younger Virelans, she is perhaps the most moral—but also the most internal.

Meera keeps to herself not because she is shy, but because she knows her time is not yet. She is the kind of girl people overlook... until they don’t.

And when that day comes, the realm may be surprised at how sharp the youngest Virelan can become.

Great Powers

Sea Serpent.png

House Virelan calls her Meles — the back half of maelstrom, worn smooth — and they speak it the way a man speaks of a hound he raised from the whelp. As if the sea had ever belonged to anyone.

The folk of the Azure Coast won't name her at all. A name is a road, and they'd rather she not find her way back along it. When they must, they say Her Below, and touch salt.

What surfaces is not quickly understood — a tide-wall moving the wrong way, grey-green and barnacled, and then more of her, and then more. When she turns, the water turns with her: a slow wheel, then a throat opening in the sea. The maelstrom that bears her name is not a thing she summons. It is a thing she is.

She answers Virelan blood, and only Virelan blood. Whatever the dragons are, she is the older, colder thing they learned to fear.
